Bhubaneswar, Oct 25: When Cyclone Dana unleashed its fury along the Odisha coast, dozens of mothers across the state gave birth under less-than-ideal circumstances.Two babies were named after the devastating cyclone.
In the Bhadrak district, a baby boy was delivered at Dhusuri Hospital while a severe storm raged outside. The medical staff ensured a safe delivery on Wednesday, leading officials to quickly suggest the name "Little Dana" for the newborn.
Similarly, another woman from Cuttack’s Niali also delivered a baby boy at a hospital. As he was born during the cyclone, family members are planning to name him ‘Dana.’ He made the landfall at around 10:15 am.
Worth mentioning that at least 4421 pregnant women, in view of the cyclone, were admitted to hospitals in Odisha, where they are getting good healthcare. Of them 1600 babies were born by Thursday evening.
Balasore district saw the highest evacuation, with 172,916 people taken to safety, followed by Mayurbhanj with 100,000. Additionally, 75,000 people were evacuated from Bhadrak, 58,000 from Jajpur, and 46,000 from Kendrapara.
