New Delhi, April 2: Delhi AIMIM President Shoaib Jamai on Wednesday warned of a nationwide movement starting from Delhi if the Waqf Amendment Bill is "forcibly" imposed.
He emphasized that attacks on minority rights protected by the constitution would not be tolerated. "If the Waqf Bill is imposed on Muslims against their will, a nationwide movement will begin in Delhi. We will exercise our democratic rights and defend the rights of minorities guaranteed by the constitution," Jamai stated on X.
The bill, introduced by Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju in the ongoing budget session, aims to amend the Waqf Act of 1995. While there is opposition to the bill, some Muslim women in Delhi and Bhopal have shown support for it.
Additionally, members of the BJP Minority Morcha in Borivali, Mumbai, celebrated the bill's tabling, distributing sweets in support. Wasim R Khan, President of the BJP Minority Morcha in Mumbai, praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the bill, claiming it would benefit poor Muslims and bring accountability to the management of Waqf properties. "This bill is long overdue and will control those who treat Waqf properties as their personal property," Khan said.
