Cuttack, Apr 3: Tension prevailed at Ravenshaw University in Odisha’s Cuttack after hostel students staged a protest against alleged assault on some students by outsiders and inaction of police in the matter.
As per reports, the protest began last night and is continuing outside the Vice Chancellor's office. Students of the West Hostel are staging a sit-in demonstration protesting against the issue on Thursday.
The agitating students alleged that a group of outsiders entered the hostel premises and assaulted some of the students. Thereafter, when they reached to the police, the cops did not lodge FIR and failed to take timely action.
The students further alleged that instead of taking action against the intruders, the police registered cases against some hostel students based on complaints from the outsiders.
“Some outsiders entered our university on March 31 during the annual function. I learned that they were from Hindu Sena. They abused me, and when I approached the police, no action was taken. My FIR was not lodged. Later, on April 1, around 12 outsiders attacked my two friends. However, cases were registered against the victims instead of the attackers. We are being framed in fake cases. We will continue our protest until these false cases are withdrawn and action is taken against the outsiders,” said a student.
Another student added, “Many outsiders are roaming on our university campus, abusing and assaulting us. Despite repeated complaints, the university authorities are not taking any significant action. Even though we have been protesting for hours, no administrative official has met us.”
As the protest intensifies, neither the university administration nor the police have issued an official statement regarding the matter. The students have demanded immediate action against the intruders and assurance of their safety within the hostel premises.
