Bhubaneswar: The Washington Post stunned the world with a sensational claim the US President-elect Donald Trump called Putin after winning his second term.
On Sunday, the leading news site Washington Post, citing sources familiar with the matter, has reported that U.S. President-elect Donald Trump advised Russian President Vladimir Putin against escalating the war in Ukraine on Thursday in their first phone conversation following Trump's victory in the U.S. presidential election.
Rebutting the claim in a press brief on Monday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, “US President-elect Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin did not have any phone conversation about the Ukraine conflict.”
Peskov said that the article was a “vivid example of the quality of information published by even some respectable outlets. This absolutely does not correspond to reality. This is pure fiction. This information is simply false.”
UKRAINE ALSO DEBUNKED WP CLAIM
Meanwhile, before Kremlin’s rebuttal came, Ukraine had denied the claim made by the Washington Post in its news story that the Ukrainian government was informed about the phone call beforehand and gave its consent to the US-Russian engagement.
“Reports that the Ukrainian side was informed in advance of the alleged call are false,” the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman told Reuters on Sunday.
TRUMP CLAIM
The Russia-Ukraine sensational claim become viral in no time, because, In the US campaign trail, Trump had claimed that he could end the Ukraine conflict “in 24 hours," if US voters grant him a second term in office. He reportedly intends to leverage US military and financial aid to Ukraine to pressure both Moscow and Kiev to achieve a compromise.
ADVANTAGE RUSSIA
In the 3-year long Russia-Ukraine war, Russia is, currently, having the advantage on the battlefield. Advantage Mosocow reiterated that it will only accept an outcome that addresses the core causes of the Ukraine conflict – including NATO’s enlargement in Europe and Ukaraine’s discriminatory policies against ethnic Russians.
ZELENSKY IN TROUBLE
The US Election outcome had certainly put Ukraine President Vladimir Zelensky in serious trouble, if the words of Donald Trump Jr., the eldest son of the US president-elect, are to be believed.
During the campaign trail, Trump Jr has unambiguously suggested that the Ukrainian leader could soon lose access to American aid.
He lampooned Zelensky by labeling him the “Greatest salesman in history” for persuading the Joe Biden administration to get tens of billions of dollars.
Since the Ukraine conflict in February 2022, Washington has emerged as Kiev’s biggest donor, with the US Congress earmarking more than $174 billion in military and other aid.
On Saturday, Trump Jr has reposted an Instagram clip featuring a photo of Zelensky standing beside the president-elect, with the camera gradually zooming in on the Ukrainian leader. The picture then turns black and white with dollar banknotes raining down upon the official. The caption reads: “POV: You’re 38 Days from losing your allowance.”
