Sambalpur, Nov 6: A 90-year-old woman and her daughter were charred to death after a fire broke out in their house in Odisha's Sambalpur district, police said on Wednesday.
The mishap took place in Hatapada area under the limits of Sambalpur Sadar police station of the district last night when they were asleep.
The deceased were identified as Snehalata Dikshit (90) and Sairendri Dikshit (62).
As per reports, the mother-daughter duo screamed for help when the upper floor caught fire and locals immediately informed the police and fire department.
Firefighters rushed to the spot and doused the flame, however, both had charred to death by the time they were taken out from the building.
The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. Police have initiated a probe into the incident suspecting any foul play behind the incident.
