Bhubaneswar, March 12: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has stepped forward in support of Congress MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati, who was suspended from the Odisha Legislative Assembly for seven days over alleged misconduct.
A delegation of BJD leaders met Speaker Surama Padhy, urging her to reconsider and revoke Bahinipati’s suspension. The party members emphasized the need for a fair review of the decision.
Both Congress and BJD workers staged protests against the suspension, calling it unilateral. Bahinipati also questioned the legality of the action taken against him.
His suspension followed repeated disruptions in the Assembly. On Monday, he allegedly broke the podium microphone, leading to chaos in the House. Despite multiple warnings, the Congress MLA reportedly continued his disruptive behavior on Tuesday, prompting the Speaker to take disciplinary action.
