Bhubaneswar, Feb 17: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi today presented the annual budget for the 2025-26 financial year, with a total outlay of Rs 2.9 lakh crore.
Key allocations in the budget include:
- Education: The education sector received the highest allocation of Rs 41,273 crore, reflecting the government’s focus on quality education and infrastructure development.
- Healthcare: The state government allocated Rs 23,635 crore towards healthcare, with specific programs like the Gopabandhu Jana Arogya Yojana receiving Rs 6,249 crore and the Mukhya Mantri Swasthya Seva Mission earmarked for Rs 3,881 crore.
- Social Security: Rs 24,250 crore was proposed for social security measures, including support for marginalized communities and vulnerable populations.
- Women Empowerment: The state government allocated Rs 17,998 crore to promote women’s welfare and empowerment initiatives.
- Rural Development: The government proposed Rs 39,221 crore for rural development, aiming to improve infrastructure and livelihoods in Odisha’s rural areas.
- Urban Development: An allocation of Rs 9,985 crore was made for the urban development sector, which includes infrastructural improvements and urban planning.
Specific departmental allocations include:
- School and Mass Education (S&ME): Rs 31,185.47 crore
- Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water: Rs 28,451 crore
- Health and Family Welfare: Rs 22,741 crore
New Initiatives
As part of the budget, the Chief Minister announced 16 new initiatives to further drive development in the state, which include:
- Antyodaya Gruha Yojana – Rs 2,603 crore for housing for the poor.
- Subhadra Surakhya – Rs 153 crore for security initiatives.
- Shri Jagannath Darshan Yojana – Rs 30 crore to offer free Mahaprasad and darshan of Lord Jagannath for devotees.
- Northern Odisha Development Council – Rs 200 crore for regional development.
- Odisha Pusti Mission – Rs 100 crore for nutritional support.
- Bakulabana Unnayan – Rs 50 crore for local development projects.
- Ama Similipal Yojana – Rs 50 crore to conserve and develop the Similipal biosphere reserve.
- Model Mandi – Rs 50 crore for setting up model agricultural markets.
- Saheed Laxman Nayak Adarsh Vidyalaya – Rs 100 crore for the establishment of model schools in memory of Saheed Laxman Nayak.
- Odia Diaspora – 0-SAMPARK – Rs 10 crore to connect with Odia communities abroad.
- Mukhyamantri Kanya Bibaha Yojana – Rs 12 crore for promoting marriage welfare schemes.
- Southern Odisha Development Council – Rs 200 crore for the development of southern Odisha.
- Swachha Odisha – Rs 261 crore to improve sanitation and cleanliness across the state.
- Aame Padhiba Aama Bhasare – Rs 25 crore to promote Odia language and culture.
- Atal Bus Stand – Rs 1,266 crore for the development of bus terminals across Odisha.
- Samrudha Sahara – Rs 400 crore for economic support and poverty alleviation programs.
