Bhubaneswar, February 17: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has allocated Rs 37,838 crore for agriculture and allied activities in the state’s 2025-26 budget.
He allocated Rs 14,701 crore for the Agriculture and Farmer’s Empowerment Department.
Recognizing agriculture as the backbone of Odisha’s rural economy, with 48% of the workforce engaged in the sector, he proposed a total outlay of Rs 37,838 crore for agriculture and allied activities—marking a 12% increase from the previous year.
Key highlights of the budget include:
Samrudha Krushak Yojana: Allocation increased from Rs 5,000 crore to Rs 6,000 crore, benefiting 13 lakh farmers.
CM-KISAN: Rs 2,020 crore earmarked for timely financial aid and input support.
Crop Diversification: Rs 695 crore set aside to promote millets, pulses, oilseeds, and high-value crops in place of paddy.
Potato Farming Support: Targeting 1.80 lakh farmers with 1.60 lakh quintals of certified seed potatoes.
Shree Anna Abhijan: Rs 600 crore allocated for millet promotion across 177 blocks, with an increased procurement price for Ragi at Rs 4,500 per quintal.
Cold Storage Development: Rs 252 crore to support cold storage infrastructure until 2029-30.
Farm Mechanization & Agri-Entrepreneurship: Rs 425 crore allocated, including Rs 264 crore under the Mukhyamantri Krushi Udyog Yojana (MKUY) to boost agri-business.
