Bhubaneswar: Defending champion Odisha Women’s team bagged the runners up trophy as they suffered a defeat from Bihar by 12-21 in the final of the Senior National Rugby 7s Championship, which concluded at Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium, Guwahati on Thursday.
In the semifinals, Odisha edged out Delhi by 38-0. Similarly, Bihar beat Maharashtra 41-0 in another semifinal match today. In the quarterfinal match, Odisha defeated Karnataka by 61-0 in the morning session.
On the opening day on Wednesday, Odisha Women’s beat Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh by 47-5 and 66-0 in the Pool-A league round matches. In the pre-quarter match, Odisha edged out Chhandigarh by 52-0 and barged into the quarterfinals.
All together 24 teams divided in 8 groups to play the league round matches. Odisha placed in the Pool-A alongside Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
