Bhubaneswar, Jan 19: Hansita Abhilipsa, currently in judicial custody in a high-profile fraud case in Odisha, has been linked to sex trafficking activities, the Commissionerate Police revealed today.
Along with her accomplice, Anil Mohanty, Hansita allegedly trafficked young women to influential figures, including businessmen, politicians, and bureaucrats. The accused have been booked under various legal provisions, including Section 5 of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act and Section 67 of the Information Technology Act, 2000, at the Infocity Police Station.
The duo allegedly trafficked women and shared obscene material via social media and electronic devices. In addition to these charges, Hansita and Anil are accused of criminal conspiracy.
Hansita and Anil were arrested for orchestrating a fraudulent scheme targeting high-profile individuals, including builders, mining operators, and corporate owners in Bhubaneswar. Posing as relatives of PK Mishra, the principal secretary to the Prime Minister, they defrauded their victims. The police had previously raided their office and residence, recovering laptops, computers, and mobile phones, which have been sent for forensic analysis.
The Income Tax (IT) department has attached assets worth millions, including four flats and five luxury vehicles linked to Hansita, her husband Saroj Kumar Sahoo, and Anil.
