Bhubaneswar, Nov 8: In a significant move to provide quick and accessible justice for rural populations, the Odisha government has launched Nyayalayas, or village courts, in every block across the state.
The initiative was unveiled today during the Bhartiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita program in Bhubaneswar. Initially, six Gram Nyayalayas will be established, with plans for further expansion in the future.
These village courts are designed to alleviate the burden on the judicial system by addressing cases directly in rural areas, effectively bringing justice to the doorsteps of the people. The establishment of Gram Nyayalayas is expected to significantly reduce case backlogs and expedite resolutions for ordinary citizens.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi reaffirmed the state’s commitment to legal reform, announcing plans to repeal outdated laws. He revealed that a law revision commission will soon be formed to systematically review and eliminate obsolete regulations, thereby streamlining the legal system in Odisha.
