Bhubaneswar, November 28: In response to threats from pro-Khalistani leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, the police in Odisha have heightened security measures ahead of the 59th DG and IGP Conference, scheduled to take place in Bhubaneswar from November 29 to December 1, 2024.
Suresh Dev Datta Singh, Commissioner of Police for the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate, assured the public on Thursday that the police are maintaining a strict vigil to counter any potential threats from anti-national elements during the high-profile event.
Speaking to reporters here, Singh said, “We are closely monitoring any possible threats from such anti-national groups. There are various such elements operating within the country, and we are committed to ensuring that the conference is conducted smoothly and securely.”
He emphasized that Odisha’s police force, along with specialized anti-terrorism units and the Intelligence Bureau (IB), are fully equipped to handle any security challenges.
"The purpose of these conferences is to address and neutralize such threats. Anti-national elements are regularly dealt with, ensuring they do not pose any harm to the country," Singh added.
In preparation for the event, which will bring together top police officials from across the country, Singh confirmed that over 70 platoons of police forces have been deployed for the three-day conference.
“Bhubaneswar will be under a tight security blanket, with personnel from the Odisha Police, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), and other agencies ensuring the safety of all attendees,” he said.
Authorities are confident that these comprehensive measures will ensure the successful and secure conduct of the DG-IGP Conference, despite the ongoing threat landscape.
