Bhubaneswar: When Boudh has emerged as the country’s hottest place with mercury measuring 43.6 deg C Sunday, the common refrain in the State has been how long the scorching heat wave to continue.
Amidst the cry for respite from the baking heat sweeping Odisha, the good news to the fore is due to trough and easterly wind confluence over Odisha will be bringing good rainfall to drench the State from March 20-23.
The maximum temperature will plunge to a cooler zone. And the day time mercury will measure in the range of 30-32 deg C in the State on March 23. Western Odisha will cool down from March 22, though the day time temperature in the region will drop to around 38 deg C from March 20 onwards.
EASTERLIES TAKE OVER
A glance at the models of NCMRWF-NCUM, IMD-GFS, NCEP-GFS shows that dry westerly winds that were gushing from the Middle east region into India will take a break from March 19 onwards, easterlies flow to the Indian land will commence.
Around March 20, a trough will form around Tamil Nadu coasts. The trough to persist till March 21.
On March 22, a trough will form over Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand etc bringing good rainfall in the states. The same will persist till March 23.
RAIN, WIND DETAILS FOR BHUBANESWAR, CUTTACK
The model forecast shows coastal region in Odisha getting good shower in the range of 4-5cm rainfall on March 22/23. The details are given below.
- BHUBANESWAR: The State capital will be recording around 4 cm rains on March 22 (Saturday). The temple town may witness rain from morning onwards. The wind warning for the State capital has predicted at around 35-40 kmph. Rain may accompany lightening.
- CUTTACK: The silver city is predicted to receive rainfall in the range of 4-5 cm on Saturday (March 22). Rain is predicted to commence from morning hours onward. The wind speed predicted is around 40kmph. The prediction forecast lightening accompanying rain.
PARDIP, JAJPUR TO RECORD MOST RAIN
As per the model forecast, places like Pardip and Jajpur will be receiving the highest rainfall in the State on March 22.
- PARADIP: The port town is predicted to record around 5-6 cm rainfall on March 22. Rains will lash the port town from morning hours onward. The surface wind speed is predicted to remain in the range of 45-50kmph. Rain may accompany lightening.
- JAJPUR: The forecast predicts around 5cm rain on March 22. Rains to begin from the morning hours onward. Wind speed to hover around 40kmph. Lightening may accompany rain, says the forecast.
As per the model forecast, places in the central and north Odisha like Angul, Dhenkanal and Keonjhar will be recording rainfall on March 22. While the rainfall will be in the range of 4cm, rain may commence from March 21 midnight. Wind speed is predicted to remain around 30kmph.
Kendrapada will also be recording rainfall around 4cm on March 22, whereas otherf coastal places like Bhadrak, Balasore and Berahampur may record raindall in the range of 2-3cm.
Some places in north Odisha like Mayurbhanj will record rainfall on March 20/21.
WESTERN ODISHA RAIN
The hot plate of Odisha, where the mercury have recently shot off to around 44 deg C at few places, will also record rainfall on March 21-23. The forecast, however, predicts rainfall in the region will be hovering around 1-2 cm only. Surface wind speed will remain in the range of 12-20kmph.
Though the rainfall predicted in the western region has been not heavy like coastal and central Odisha districts, the cloudy skies will enough to bring the mercury down to a soothing level, giving respite from singeing heat wave.
