Bhubaneswar, March 17: Odisha's Chief Minister, Mohan Charan Majhi on Monday informed in the State Assembly that a total of 74 Naxals and members of militias have surrendered and reintegrated into mainstream society over the last five years. This significant development occurred between January 1, 2020, and December 31, 2024.
Responding question posed by Bijaya Kumar Dalabehera, an independent Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Baramba, CM Majhi, in his written response, informed the measures taken by the Odisha government to assist these former insurgents in returning to normal life.
According to the Chief Minister, a substantial amount of ₹1,49,44,000 has been allocated for the rehabilitation of 50 out of the 74 surrendered Maoists. These individuals were provided with assistance under the state’s "Surrender and Rehabilitation Scheme," which offers a range of benefits designed to help those who choose to renounce violence and join mainstream society.
The state government’s scheme includes financial aid, skill development, educational opportunities, and other support systems aimed at facilitating the reintegration process for these former Naxals. This initiative is part of Odisha’s broader strategy to tackle the Maoist insurgency by addressing the root causes of militancy and providing avenues for former militants to contribute positively to society.
