Bhubaneswar, November 21: Two alarming cases of newborns allegedly sold due to poverty have come to light in Odisha, rescued by the Odisha govt. officials.
In Bolangir district, officials traced a newborn to a private hospital in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, where her health remains critical. The child was reportedly sold by her parents under financial duress.
In another incident, a newborn sold for ₹20,000 in Rayagada district was rescued from Andhra Pradesh. After being presented before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), the baby was placed in the Special Adoption Agency (SAA) in Rayagada for care and protection.
The government has pledged to investigate the cases thoroughly while ensuring the children’s well-being and taking steps to curb such practices.
