Deogarh, Mar 18: In a tragic incident, a woman was trampled to death by an elephant in Riamal forest range of Odisha’s Deogarh district in the wee hours of Tuesday.
The deceased has been identified as Pooja Mahar and the incident was reported from Tileipasi village under Riamal forest range.
As per reports, Pooja had gone out to attend nature’s call when she came face to face with the pachyderm. Thereafter, the elephant attacked her and trampled her leading to her death on the spot.
Pooja’s husband Jitu Mahar and their three children narrowly escaped the elephant attack.
Following the incident, tension prevailed in the village with locals expressing concern over the increasing human-wildlife conflict in the area.
Upon getting the information, police and forest department officials arrived at village and took stock of the situation pacified the villagers. The cops also seized the victim’s body before sending it for post-mortem.
Further investigation into the matter was underway.
