Berhampur, Apr 27: In a shocking incident, police in Pattapur area of Odisha’s Ganjam district on Sunday arrested a youth for allegedly raping and then killing his four-year-old niece.
The accused has been identified as Kalia Nahak, who happens to be a distant relative (uncle) of the victim.
As per reports, the body of the four-year-old girl was found in an abandoned house in the village two days back.
According to the police, Nahak, in an inebriated condition, lured the girl with chocolate and the promise of visiting a festival and took her to a secluded place. Thereafter, he attempted to rape her and later strangled her to death before dumping her body in the abandoned house.
Sources said that the victim along with her mother had come to her paternal uncle’s house for a festival. However, she went missing while playing on the verandah of the house on Friday evening.
Worried about her whereabouts, her family members launched a frantic search and later filed a missing complaint at Pattapur police station.
However, the villagers found the girl’s body in the under-construction Anganwadi centre and alerted the police.
Upon getting the information, police arrived at the scene and recovered the body. Subsequently, it was sent to MKCG Medical College for a post-mortem.
