New Delhi, Jan 05: In a bold move that’s set to spark conversations, OYO, one of India’s top travel and hotel booking platforms, has rolled out a new check-in policy that could reshape the hospitality landscape. Starting in Meerut, the company has introduced guidelines that will prevent unmarried couples from checking into partner hotels, requiring all couples to provide valid proof of relationship.
This policy shift, aimed at aligning with local social sensibilities, could soon expand to more cities across the country.
The revised guidelines, effective immediately, stipulate that unmarried couples will no longer be permitted to check in. Under the new policy, all couples will be required to present valid proof of relationship at check-in, including for online reservations.
The company has given its partner hotels the discretion to refuse bookings from couples based on local social norms. OYO emphasized that this change aims to align with community sensibilities, and it will be implemented in Meerut first, with the possibility of expanding to other cities based on feedback.
