Bhubaneswar, Jan 17: Social worker and Padma Shri Shanti Devi passed away late last night at her residence in Gunupur in Rayagada district. Born on 18th April 1934, Shanti Devi started a small Ashram in Koraput and later established Seva Samaj at Rayagada for the all round development of the girl child. She then set up another Ashram at Gunpur for the education. rehabilitation, vocational training of orphans and destitute children. She has created a special acquaintance for herself in the whole country for her noticeable contribution in the field of social service. As one of the pioneer of social service movement, she had been honoured with one of the most prestigious civilian awards of the country ‘Padma Shri’ in the year 2021. Devi was known for her invaluable contribution for the upliftment of tribal girls through education. Worth mentioning, she had honoured with Padma Shri award on Republic Day 2021.
