New Delhi, December 2: Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the screening of The Sabarmati Report at the Balyogi Auditorium in Parliament House this afternoon.
Arriving with Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Parliamentary Affairs Minister, PM Modi was seen walking into the auditorium, where several other ministers, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, had already gathered for the event.
The Sabarmati Report, starring Vikrant Massey, focuses on the tragic burning of the S-6 coach of the Sabarmati Express near Godhra station in Gujarat on February 27, 2002. The film sheds light on the 2002 Godhra incident, which has generated significant discussion. The movie has been declared tax-free in several states, including Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Odisha, Haryana, Gujarat, and Rajasthan. It has also received praise from various political figures, including BJP MP and actress Hema Malini.
Ektaa Kapoor, one of the film’s producers, recently discussed the extensive research undertaken during its creation. She explained, "We spent a year reviewing previous research and fact-checking those findings. Only after that, we proceeded with the film. That’s why I am proud to have made this movie, unveiling the truth behind it."
The film has garnered attention, particularly after PM Modi publicly praised its efforts to reveal the truth. In a comment on X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi said, "Well said. It is good that this truth is coming out, and that too in a way common people can see it. A fake narrative can persist only for a limited time. Eventually, the facts will always come out!"
Several Chief Ministers have also attended screenings of the film and expressed their admiration for the way it honors the 59 victims who lost their lives in the tragedy. Among them, Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath, Goa CM Pramod Sawant, and Haryana CM Nayab Saini have all praised the film, with some states making it tax-free.
Directed by Dheeraj Sarna, The Sabarmati Report stars Vikrant Massey, Ridhi Dogra, and Raashii Khanna in prominent roles. The film is produced by Shobha Kapoor, Ektaa R. Kapoor, Amul V. Mohan, and Anshul Mohan under the banners of Balaji Motion Pictures and Vikir Films Production.
