Bhubaneswar, Jan 9: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) Convention in Bhubaneswar, praising the Indian diaspora as the "nation's ambassadors to the world."
He emphasized India’s democratic values.
PM Modi also flagged off the inaugural journey of the Pravasi Bharatiya Express, a special tourist train for the diaspora. It will explore India’s cultural and religious landmarks over three weeks.
The event was featured a performance by Grammy winner Ricky Kej.
PM Modi highlighted Odisha's rich cultural heritage and its significance in India's history.
He also acknowledged former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee for establishing PBD as a platform to strengthen ties with the global Indian community.
PM Modi said that their contribution to global society is admired worldwide for their values of unity and diversity.
The convention will conclude tomorrow with the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awards presented by President Droupadi Murmu.
