Paris, February 12: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron visited the Mazargues War Cemetery in Marseille to honor Indian soldiers who fought in World War I. At a solemn ceremony, Modi laid a tricolor-themed wreath, paying tribute with folded hands, while Macron also placed a wreath.
The two leaders walked through the cemetery, placing roses on memorial tablets. Maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, the site commemorates over 1,700 war casualties, including 205 Indian soldiers.
During his visit to France, Modi co-chaired the AI Action Summit and addressed business leaders. His homage follows a similar tribute in 2015 at the Neuve Chapelle Memorial, where he honored 4,700 Indian soldiers.
