Prayagraj, Feb 5: Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj on Wednesday to take a holy dip in Triveni Sangam on the auspicious month of Maha Magha.
At around 11 am, the Prime Minister is scheduled to take a holy dip at the Sangam, the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers, the PMO informed in a statement.
During his visit, PM Modi will also offer prayers to Maa Ganga at the Sangam.
In preparation for the Prime Minister's visit, a high alert has been issued in the city, with security being tightened, especially around the Sangam. The city has seen a continuous stream of devotees taking holy dips at the ghats, and security forces, including the National Security Guard (NSG), police, and other personnel, have been deployed to ensure the safety of the Prime Minister and the public.
Ahead of the program, as many as five mela areas, including Jhunsi, Parade, Sangam, Teliyarganj, and Arail, have been designated as high-security zones.
Security arrangements have been ramped up in preparation for PM Modi’s visit, with a large police force, including PAC and RAF personnel, deployed at key locations. As per local media reports, the Ganga ghats have been thoroughly secured, with thorough checks for those heading towards Kumbh Nagari.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will accompany the Prime Minister during his visit, along with several state ministers.
The Maha Kumbh Mela, which began on Paush Purnima (January 13), will continue until Mahashivratri on February 26. This grand event attracts millions of devotees from across the globe, making it one of the largest gatherings in the world.
