New Delhi, April 21: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with US Vice President JD Vance on Monday, welcoming the “significant progress” achieved in the ongoing negotiations for a comprehensive India-US Bilateral Trade Agreement. The agreement is being shaped to benefit the people of both nations and deepen the growing economic partnership.

During the meeting, both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening collaboration across key sectors including energy, defence, and strategic technologies. They also engaged in discussions on various regional and global developments, underlining the importance of diplomacy and dialogue in addressing international challenges.

Vice President Vance was accompanied by Second Lady Usha Vance, their children, and senior members of the US administration. Prime Minister Modi fondly recalled his January visit to Washington, DC, and his discussions with President Donald Trump, which he said had charted a clear path for enhanced cooperation under the shared visions of ‘Make America Great Again’ and ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’.

The two leaders positively reviewed the progress across multiple areas of bilateral cooperation, expressing optimism about the direction of the India-US relationship. The Prime Minister also extended his warm wishes to Vice President Vance and his family for a pleasant stay in India and conveyed his greetings to President Trump, expressing eagerness for his upcoming visit later this year.

Vice President Vance, currently on a four-day official tour of India, arrived in New Delhi on Monday. His itinerary includes visits to Jaipur and Agra before returning to Washington, DC. The high-profile visit comes at a time when the US is engaged in trade negotiations with several countries, including India, following its recent move to impose reciprocal tariffs. In a bid to facilitate talks, the US has temporarily reduced new tariff rates to 10 percent for most of its trade partners for a 90-day window.
