Mumbai, April 5: Southern actress Pooja Hegde recently opened up about her approach to auditions, emphasizing that she has no inhibitions when it comes to showcasing her talents. She highlighted the challenges female actors face, especially when it comes to being typecast. "Filmmakers often have a set perception of actors, especially female ones, which makes it easy for us to be pigeonholed into specific roles. That’s why I believe it’s important to audition and display traits that haven’t been explored yet," she shared.
Hegde also encouraged actors to pursue opportunities within their home country instead of looking solely to the West. "It’s better to be considered for a role than to be overlooked. Some of the biggest stars audition in the West—why shouldn’t we do the same here?" she added.
On the professional front, Hegde is currently gearing up for the release of her Tamil film Retro, where she stars alongside Suriya. Directed by Karthik Subbaraj, the movie is set to hit theaters on May 1. Produced by Stone Bench Creations and 2D Entertainment, the film features music by Santhosh Narayanan, cinematography by Shreyaas Krishna, and editing by Shafique Mohamed Ali. The stellar supporting cast includes Joju George, Jayaram, Karunakaran, Nassar, Prakash Raj, Sujith Shankar, Tarak Ponnappa, Thamizh, Krishnakumar Balasubramanian, Prem Kumar, Ramachandran Durairaj, Uday Mahesh, Sandeep Raj, Murugavel, and Vidhu.
In addition to her work in Tamil cinema, Hegde is also set to star in the Bollywood film Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, alongside Varun Dhawan. Directed by David Dhawan, the film promises a fun, lighthearted narrative mixed with romantic elements. Recently, the duo was spotted in Rishikesh shooting for the film.
For those unfamiliar, Hai Jawani Toh Pyaar Hona Hai was a hit song from David Dhawan's 1999 film Biwi No. 1, featuring Salman Khan, Karisma Kapoor, and Sushmita Sen. The film's core cast is also expected to include Mrunal Thakur, Kubbra Sait, Maniesh Paul, Rohit Saraf, Rajeev Khandelwal, Nitish Nirmal, and Sreeleela.
