Bhubaneswar, Jan 9: Today marks a significant day for the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas-a moment to remember when Mahatma Gandhi returned to India from South Africa in 1915.
The event was initiated by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi has transformed it into a global movement, strengthening the ties between India and its diaspora.
This year's Pravasi Bharatiya Divas was inaugurated by PM Modi, emphasizing the vital role of the Indian diaspora in India’s growth. He also stressed that connecting the overseas Indian community to the nation’s development plans is a crucial element of his strategy to make India the third-largest economy by 2047, marking 100 years of independence.
The Prime Minister highlighted that the contributions of the diaspora have brought immense recognition to India globally.
Their success abroad is not only a matter of personal achievement but also enhances the countries they reside in, reflecting India’s values of collaboration and progress.
As part of his development agenda, PM Modi chose Odisha for this year's Pravasi Bharatiya Divas celebrations.
This choice aligns with the state’s goals, as it prepares for its own centenary in 2036, marking 100 years since the formation of the Utkal province.
Odisha’s growth is integral to India’s broader development vision, and PM Modi's visit has been a significant milestone in this journey.
