Bhubaneswar, Mar 31: The public darshan of holy trinity – Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Goddess Subhadra at Puri Srimandir will be restricted for five hours today (March 31) for ‘Khasapada Lagi Niti’ rituals.
According to the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA), this special ritual will take place from 5 PM to 10 PM.
During this time, darshan of the deities inside the temple will be restricted. The ritual will be performed after the second bhoga (food offering) is made at the Bhoga Mandap.
This secret ritual happens twice a year—after Rath Yatra and Holi—to protect the deities’ sacred bodies. During these festivals, the idols are exposed to sun, rain, and other environmental effects, which can cause damage. To restore them, a special group of servitors called Daitapatis carries out this ritual in secrecy.
After the Gundicha Yatra, the ritual is performed to care for Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, Devi Subhadra, and Lord Sudarshan.
Similarly, after Holi, it helps repair any damage caused during the celebrations.
