Keonjhar, Nov 6: A serious incident has surfaced at a government engineering college in Keonjhar, where second-year students have reported allegations of ragging by senior students.
The victim has been identified as Biswajeet Behera was severely injured after being attacked by five senior students in his hostel room. He is currently receiving treatment at the district headquarters hospital.
Sources said, the incident occurred around 2:20 am when the senior students barged into Behera's room and assaulted him with wooden planks and rods. It is believed that the attack was retaliation for Behera's complaint to the principal about a previous ragging incident.
Behera's family has filed a police complaint, demanding strict action against the perpetrators. College principal Saroj Kumar Sarangi has visited the injured student and convened a meeting of the anti-ragging cell to address the situation.
Incidents of ragging have allegedly become a regular affair in Odisha Colleges. On Tuesday, a first-year MBBS student at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack had filed a complaint of ragging against final-year students.
