New Delhi, October 22: In a security scare, 50 domestic and international flights operated by major Indian airlines, including IndiGo, Vistara, and Akasa Air, received bomb threats between Monday night and Tuesday evening, according to aviation sources.
IndiGo, the largest airline affected, reported receiving 11 additional bomb threats by Tuesday evening, following 10 threats on Monday.
The flights included major routes like Bengaluru to Lucknow, Kolkata to Jaipur, Mumbai to Istanbul, and Hyderabad to Jodhpur. Akasa Air and Vistara also confirmed security alerts, with the latter facing a bomb warning for a flight landing in Kathmandu, Nepal.
Authorities, including the Nepal Army bomb disposal team, swiftly responded to these threats, while Indian airlines coordinated closely with local security teams.
Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu reassured the public, stating that additional airport checks are underway, and efforts to trace the perpetrators are ongoing.
The Ministry of Home Affairs is actively involved, and those responsible for issuing the threats will face severe consequences, including being placed on a no-fly list.
Despite the alerts, airlines have emphasized prioritizing passenger safety without causing undue disruption.
