Bhubaneswar, January 13: The Indian Railways has outlined a comprehensive plan to accommodate the massive influx of devotees traveling to Prayagraj -Maha Kumbh Mela 2025,
According to Ashok Kumar, the Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of East Coast Railway, over 13,000 trains will be deployed during the event. This includes 10,000 regular mail express trains and 3,000 additional special services planned specifically for January and February.
Among these, seven special trains will operate from Odisha to ensure smooth connectivity for the devotees. "The Indian Railways will run more than 13,000 trains during the Maha Kumbh, including 10,000 regular mail express trains and over 3,000 special services. Seven special trains from Odisha are being introduced to cater to this large-scale pilgrimage," Kumar stated. The first special train will travel to Tundla, while the second will run from Puri to Tundla. These services are designed to cover as many districts in Odisha as possible, with ample arrangements in place to ensure the comfort and convenience of passengers.
Earlier, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw had highlighted the significant investments made by the Railways in enhancing infrastructure for the Maha Kumbh. Over the last three years, Rs 5,000 crore has been allocated to improve facilities, including the construction of new platforms, the doubling of railway lines, and upgrades to accommodate the expected surge of pilgrims. "We have been preparing for the Maha Kumbh for the past three years, investing Rs 5,000 crore in new infrastructure and enhancing existing facilities. This includes new platforms, doubled railway lines, and better holding areas, as well as the construction of a new bridge over the Ganga," Vaishnaw told reporters.
Additionally, a "war room" has been set up at Prayagraj Junction to monitor railway operations, with a similar setup at the Railway Board. These operations will run 24/7 to ensure the smooth functioning of the transport system. The minister also noted the close coordination between railway police and state authorities during the event.
Vaishnaw further explained that the arrangements have been scientifically designed, with color-coded holding areas to direct passengers efficiently. Booklets in 22 languages have been published, and announcements will be made in 12 Indian languages to ensure clarity for pilgrims from across the country.
