According to the prosecution, Greeshma, a native of Kanyakumari, and Sharon, from Parassala in Thiruvananthapuram, had been friends since 2021. At the time, Greeshma was pursuing her postgraduate studies in English, while Sharon was in the final year of his undergraduate degree.
The court also sentenced Greeshma’s maternal uncle Nirmalakumaran Nair to three years in prison for aiding the crime and destroying evidence. Meanwhile, Greeshma’s mother Sindhu was acquitted by the court last week.
Despite being in a relationship with Sharon, Greeshma agreed to marry a military officer chosen by her family in March 2022. According to the prosecution, as the date of her arranged marriage came closer, Greeshma hatched a plan to kill Sharon. She had even secretly continued her relationship with Sharon even after accepting the proposal.
During questioning, Greeshma told the police that she wanted to end her relationship with Sharon and also admitted that she asked him to delete intimate visuals of their time together, fearing he might share them with her fiancé.
She claimed that she feared Sharon would share the visuals with her husband-to-be and this was why she planned his murder.
