Bhubaneswar, Oct 13: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) announced on Sunday that the southwest monsoon has withdrawn from various parts of Odisha and is expected to leave the remaining areas within the next 48 hours.
Typically, the southwest monsoon retreats from Odisha between October 10 and 15. However, this year, it remained subdued from October 3 to 9, resulting in a rainfall deficit of 70% during that period.
As the withdrawal progresses, no heavy rainfall is anticipated in the state over the next five days. However, light to moderate rainfall and thundershowers may occur in isolated areas due to moisture-laden winds from the Bay of Bengal.
In its two-week extended outlook until October 24, the IMD stated that significant rainfall activity is unlikely in the state during this period. Light to moderate rain and thundershowers may happen in some places from October 13 to 17, but overall, rainfall levels are expected to remain below normal in Odisha.
