Bhubaneswar, Apr 27: Unrest prevailed at Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar after eight Kolkata-bound flights made emergency landings due to Kalabaisakhi (Nor’wester) in the city of joy.
The emergency landings were made owing to Nor’wester induced strong winds and heavy rains, making the landings unsafe.
It left passengers stranded at the airport overnight and led to frustration and dissatisfaction among the flyers causing a visible unrest at the Bhubaneswar airport.
Over 25 passengers staged a protest in front of the airport gates. Their complaint is that even after the weather improved, the flights were not allowed to depart for their respective destinations.
On the other hand, six of the eight diverted flights were later cleared to return to Kolkata once the weather conditions improved. Airport authorities in Bhubaneswar confirmed that these flights were able to resume their journey safely after a brief pause. However, according to the latest reports, the remaining two flights are still grounded at Bhubaneswar Airport.
The unexpected disruptions led to significant chaos at Bhubaneswar Airport. Sources said that passengers were forced to wait for hours inside the terminals, resulting in overcrowding and added pressure on operations.
During this time, airport staff and airline personnel worked together to manage the situation, offering updates and assistance to the stranded travelers.
