Kohli's Olympic Dream? Star Hints on a comeback
Virat Kohli, the king of Indian cricket. Fresh from India's Champions Trophy victory, Kohli has dropped a cheeky hint about potentially coming out of T20I retirement… but there's a very specific condition. He also opened up about his inspiring fitness transformation and has officially joined the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) squad ahead of the IPL 2025 season.
Kohli's Playful Proposition
Kohli had previously announced his retirement from T20 Internationals after India's triumphant T20 World Cup win against South Africa. However, during a recent appearance at the Innovation Lab Indian Sports Summit, he playfully suggested he might reconsider that decision – if India makes it to the final of the men's cricket event at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
"For Olympics? no. If we are playing for a gold medal, I just might sneak in for one game, win a medal, and then return home," Kohli quipped. Cricket is making its grand return to the Olympics after a 128-year hiatus, so Kohli's comment, though lighthearted, definitely sparked some excitement!
The Fitness Icon:
Kohli, now 36, is renowned for his incredible fitness and athleticism. But he wasn't always this way. He candidly admitted that he was a "chubby teenager" when he first broke into the international scene. His transformation, was spurred by observing international players who had greater stamina and endurance.
"My transformations came after a few tough tours when I saw the guys lasting on the field longer than us," Kohli shared. He added, with a smile, and convincing his mother he wasn't sick was the toughest part. "She thought I was looking sick. I told her that the world is talking about my training methods and I am not sick."
Kohli Joins RCB for IPL 2025
Kohli has officially joined the RCB squad for the upcoming IPL 2025 season. The franchise shared a video of Kohli posing in the RCB jersey, with the caption: "The King is here and like always, he's 2 steps (sometimes a LOT more) ahead of everyone."
Kohli's coming off a fantastic performance in the Champions Trophy, where he played a key role in India's victory, scoring 218 runs across five matches, including a brilliant century against Pakistan and a crucial 84 against Australia.
For IPL 2025, RCB have appointed Rajat Patidar as their captain, signaling a new era for the team. RCB will kick off their season against defending champions KKR at the Eden Gardens.
