Bhubaneswar: The West Bengal team emerged overall champions with 255 points. The host Odisha team claimed the runner up title with 219 points in the 35th East Zone Junior Athletics Championships, which concluded at Kalinga Stadium here on Wednesday.
Odisha also emerged as overall champions in the boy’s category with 126 points. Odisha girls team secured 93 points in this tournament and secured second place in girl’s category
Team West Bengal emerged overall champions in the girl’s category with 153 points. West Bengal boys team secured 102 points in this tournament and secured second place in boy’s category
CEO, Hockey Promotional Council of Odisha Deepankar Mohapatra, Additional Secretary, DSYS, B K Swain, Joint Secretary, DSYS, Sailendra Jena graced the closing ceremony and felicitated the medal winners.
‘I am sure with their performances in the East Zone, our athletes will perform even better in the upcoming junior athletics nationals. We are happy to have hosted young athletes from 10 states and we hope everyone had a great experience here,’ said Mohapatra.
It is to be noted that the 39th National Junior Athletics Championships 2024 are scheduled to be held at Bhubaneswar’s Kalinga Stadium from 25 to 29 October.
