Vangmayi Parakala, the daughter of India's Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, has choosen a life away from the political limelight. Born in Chennai in 1991, Vangmayi grew up surrounded by politics and academia. Her mother a prominent political leader and Vangmayi father, Parakala Prabhakar, a political economist and commentator. Instead Vangmayi has opted for a different profession altogether, which is onfocusing on writing, journalism, and photography.
Vangmayi's educational journey reflects her intellectual curiosity and passion for storytelling. She earned a Bachelor's and Master's degree in English Literature from the University of Delhi. Her interest into communication led her to pursue a Master of Science in Journalism from the prestigious Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University, USA.
This academic foundation paved the way for her current role as a feature writer at Mint Lounge, a national publication. Vangmayi's writing is known for its insightful observations and detailed storytelling, and her own framed photographs. In June 2023, Vangmayi married Pratik Doshi, a close associate of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a private ceremony in Bengaluru as she wanted to have a low-key affair and to be attended only by close family and friends.
Pratik Doshi, originally from Gujarat, has a long-standing connection with Prime Minister Modi, dating back to Modi's tenure as the Chief Minister of Gujarat. Doshi currently serves as an Officer on Special Duty (OSD) at the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), where he plays a key role in research and strategic initiatives. He has been an integral part of the PMO since 2014, contributing his expertise and insights to the Prime Minister's team.
