Angul, Jan 15: In a tragic incident, a woman was allegedly killed by her husband and in-laws for being unable to meet their dowry demands in Bagdia area of Odisha’s Angul district.
The deceased has been identified as Usha Nayak, a resident of Jambunali village under Chhendipada police limits. The incident has been reported from Patrapada village under Bagdia police limits.
As per reports, Usha was married to Arjun Nayak of Patrapada village. Her family members received information that she was critically ill and has been admitted to Chhendipada Community Health Center (CHC) on Tuesday. Thereafter, they rushed to the CHC and were devastated to find that their daughter had already passed away. They were later told by Arjun and his family members that Usha was suffering from severe depression and ended her life by hanging .
However, Usha’s parents have alleged that she was murdered by her husband and in-laws for dowry. They further added that soon after the marriage, she was subjected to physical and mental torture for dowry.
They have filed a complaint at Bagdia police station in this regard. Following the complaint, the police have registered a murder case and arrested the woman’s husband Arjun.
The cops have also seized the woman’s body from the Chhendipada CHC and sent it for post-mortem.
