Zomato, the food delivery app is getting a new name – Eternal Ltd. Don't worry, you can still order your favorite meals through Zomato, but the company behind it is evolving. CEO Deepinder Goyal recently shared the news, calling it a fresh start as they grow beyond just food.
Goyal explained that the name "Eternal" has been floating around internally for a while, especially after they acquired the quick-commerce company, Blinkit. He felt the time was right to make it official, now that Blinkit is becoming a major part of their future plans.
It's a significant moment for the company. They recently joined the big leagues by entering the BSE Sensex, a list of India's top companies. This happened on December 23rd, which also marked 17 years since Zomato was founded. Goyal says joining the Sensex is a proud achievement, but it also means they have a bigger responsibility to do things right.
So, what will Eternal Ltd. look like? It will be like a parent company overseeing four different businesses: Zomato (the food delivery you know), Blinkit (for super-fast grocery deliveries), Hyperpure (which supplies restaurants with ingredients), and a new one named District. The nature of busines of 'District' is not mentioned.
Once the shareholders give the thumbs up, the company's website will change from zomato.com to eternal.com. Even their stock market symbol will switch from ZOMATO to ETERNAL.
Goyal admits that "Eternal" is a bold name, almost a bit intimidating. He says it's a challenge to live up to such a powerful word. It signifies lasting forever, but true "forever" isn't about bragging – it's about constantly working towards a goal.
More than a New Name
This isn't just a new label on the company. Goyal opines, "We're here to stay, not because we've already made it, but because we have a long way to go and we're determined to get there." Eternal will house four businesses and that means more responsibilities. It will be interesting to see how Eternal Ltd. shapes the future of food and beyond.
