Rourkela, Oct 30: Five members of a nomad family were murdered in Sundargarh district of Odisha after group clash erupted last night over extramarital affair. Three of the victims were women.
Besides, 10 persons were critically injured in the group clash and are undergoing treatment at Sundargarh district headquarters hospital.
The brutal group clash took place in Karamdihi village under Sadar police limits in the district.
Four children and a woman were kidnapped while four other children and an adult male member of the community were injured in the late-night attack.
Sundargarh police have launched a massive manhunt to arrest the perpetrators of the crime.
DIG of Police (Western Range) Birjesh Kumar Rai and Sundargarh SP Pratyush Diwaker visited the spot and took stock of the situation. The bodies have been sent for autopsy.
The assailants used pointed weapons in the attack while the victims and the injured persons were in their sleep, said SP Pratyush Diwaker.
Preliminary investigations reveal that the bone-chilling murder case was the fall out of an illicit relationship of a victim with the sister of his wife, said police.
