Bhopal, November 14: A statue of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar was vandalized in Gohta village, within the Vijaypur Assembly constituency of Sheopur district, Madhya Pradesh, on Wednesday night. The incident has triggered outrage across political lines, with both the BJP and Congress calling for strict action.

Following the incident, police were deployed in Gohta, a village with a significant Dalit population, to manage tensions and prevent escalation. According to Sheopur Superintendent of Police (SP) Virendra Jain, a police team promptly responded to reports of a dispute between two groups in the area, helping bring the situation under control.

“There have been no injuries or property damage in Dalit households, and no complaints have been filed with the police regarding further vandalism,” SP Jain confirmed, stressing that officers remain on-site to maintain peace.

Despite this, Congress claims that Dalit houses were targeted and ransacked, with plans to protest on November 18. In response, the state BJP unit affirmed that those involved in vandalizing Ambedkar’s statue would face legal action, reiterating that "there is no place for hooliganism in the BJP-led government."

Both parties’ demands for justice underscore the sensitivity surrounding this incident and the widespread respect for Ambedkar's legacy.
