Amit Shah urges stronger counterterrorism measures in J&K

New Delhi, Feb 05: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday stressed the importance of intensifying the fight against terrorism, with the goal of achieving "zero infiltration." 

While chairing a security review meeting on Jammu and Kashmir in the national capital, Shah acknowledged that the Union government's sustained and coordinated efforts had weakened the terrorism ecosystem in the region. He directed all security agencies to enhance their efforts in counterterrorism and focus on eliminating infiltration.

Shah called on agencies to take "more stringent action against infiltration and terrorist activities with a ruthless approach." During the over two-hour-long meeting, he emphasized that the objective should be to "uproot the existence of terrorists."

The Home Minister also highlighted the role of the narco network in supporting terrorists and infiltrators, urging swift and decisive action against terror funding linked to the narcotics trade.

Shah further directed agencies to make new appointments in the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) to ensure the timely implementation of new criminal laws. He reiterated the Modi government's "zero tolerance" policy towards terrorism, with the ultimate goal of a terrorism-free Jammu and Kashmir.

The Minister praised the efforts of security agencies for their significant contributions toward improving the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir. He urged agencies to remain vigilant and continue working together in a coordinated effort to eliminate terrorism in the region.

The meeting was attended by Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Intelligence Bureau Director Tapan Deka, the Chief Secretary, the Director General of Police of Jammu and Kashmir, and senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Jammu and Kashmir administration.
