Bhubaneswar, February 5: The Justice Chittaranjan Das Commission has concluded its investigation into the alleged torture of an Army officer and his fiancée at the Bharatpur police station in Bhubaneswar last year. The commission, established to thoroughly investigate the incident, is now preparing to submit its report to the state government.
Following the incident, the state government appointed the Justice Chittaranjan Das Commission to examine the case in detail. During its investigation, the commission collected over 500 affidavits from involved parties and conducted statements from all individuals connected to the case. It also reviewed various pieces of evidence and testimony from witnesses.
Subhendra Mohanty, Secretary of the Justice Chittaranjan Das Commission, confirmed that the investigation has been completed, and the final report will be submitted to the government by February 28. Initially, the commission's term was set to end on January 31.
The Army officer’s fiancée’s lawyer had requested additional time until February 15 to question the accused police officials and 35 witnesses. However, the commission concluded its work due to the time constraints.
The incident in question occurred on September 14, when an Army major and his fiancée were allegedly mistreated and tortured by police officers at the Bharatpur police station. The couple had gone to the station to file a complaint but were met with hostility from the police, sparking a controversy that prompted the state government to initiate a judicial probe.
