Sonepur, Apr 27: In a shocking turn of events, a woman was arrested for allegedly strangling her five-year-old daughter to death in Birmaharajpur locality of Odisha’s Sonepur district.
The accused woman has been identified as Ashalata Mohapatra.
As per reports, the tragic incident took place on February 24 in Kotsalai village under Birmaharajpur police limits in the district and the arrest took place two months later.
According to the police, Ashalata was reportedly upset after having a bad dream and allegedly strangled her five-year-old daughter with a saree to death when no one was home.
Initially, the child's death was registered as an unnatural death, and an autopsy was performed. The post-mortem report later confirmed that the cause of death was suffocation.
Thereafter, police conducted an investigation and collected evidence, which ultimately led to Ashalata’s arrest. She reportedly confessed to the crime during questioning.
The arrested woman was presented in court, and further investigation is ongoing.
