Colombo, July 24: Cricket legend and former Sri Lanka skipper Sanath Jayasuriya, who has been appointed as the Interim Coach for the upcoming India series at home, on Wednesday stated that discipline is a must for success in life. It is vital for sportsmen as well.
Jayasuriya stressed for discipline within the Sri Lankan cricket team, including enforcing proper haircut and the removal of piercings Jayasuirya added that instilling discipline in current players is important, specially to maintain cricket as "the gentlemen’s game".
Jayasuriya has been appointed as a temporary coach for the series against India and Sri Lanka's tour of England in September.
Sri Lanka Sports Minister Harin Fernando too echoed the same voice. He earlier stressed the need for modesty and discipline among cricketers, who represent the country.
Harin further stated that humble behaviour could mitigate most of the criticism cricketers face after match losses. Since cricketers are role models for many, so they need to be discipline and modest, he reasoned.
