Malda (West Bengal), April 15: A relief camp has been set up in Par Lalpur, Malda, for those displaced after violence erupted in Murshidabad’s Samserganj-Dhuliyan area on April 11 during protests against the Waqf Amendment Act.
Dr. Prasanjit Mandal, attending to the displaced, said essential medicines are available and his team has been making daily visits. “No patients currently need medication,” he noted.
Several victims recounted their traumatic experiences. Keshav Mandal, who arrived on April 12, said, “Everything we had was burnt down. We don’t know when we’ll return.” Lalcharan Mondal echoed the plea, saying, “My home was destroyed. I want peace and harmony from the government.”
Rupa Mandal, another survivor, said her house was set ablaze mid-meal. “BSF rescued us. We want compensation,” she said.
The protest turned violent, leaving three dead, many injured, and widespread destruction. The BJP blamed TMC, accusing MP Bapi Halder of threatening those protesting Waqf-related issues.
ADG South Bengal, Supratim Sarkar, stated the situation is now under control. “CRPF and state forces are deployed. A control room is active—citizens should avoid rumours,” he said. ( With ANI Input)
