Dhenkanal, Nov 16: The carcass of a female elephant was found in the reserve forest in Dhenkanal district on Thursday.
The carcass was found near Khairamunda village under Ghagramunda panchayat in the Mahabirod range of the district, said a forest official.
The exact reason behind the pachyderm’s death has not been ascertained yet. However, it is suspected that the elephant, aged about 30-year-old, might have died due to illness.
The official said that forest department staff had seen the animal roaming in the forest and they suspected it to be sick.
The department had decided to provide it with medical treatment after tranquilizing it today. However, it died before medical treatment.
