New Delhi, Apr 7: The Central Government on Monday hiked excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 2 per litre each.
According to the latest notification by the Finance Ministry, the excise duty on petrol was increased to Rs 13 per litre and that on diesel to Rs 10.
Though the notification did not mention how it will affect retail prices, industry sources said prices for customers are not likely to change.
The higher excise duty may be balanced out by a reduction in petrol and diesel prices, as global oil prices have dropped.
According to the Finance Ministry’s latest notice, this change will take effect from April 8, 2025.
