Centre allocates ₹10,599 crore for Odisha’s rail development: Railway Minister

Bhubaneswar, February 3: The Central government has allocated ₹10,599 crore for the development of Odisha’s railway infrastructure in the Union Budget for the 2025-26 fiscal year, announced Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw during a press conference in New Delhi on Monday.

Vaishnaw emphasized the Centre’s continued focus on enhancing connectivity and safety in Odisha. He informed that railway projects worth over ₹78,000 crore are currently underway in the state.

“In the last 10 years, more than 2,046 kilometers of new rail tracks have been laid in Odisha, surpassing the entire railway network of Malaysia,” Vaishnaw stated. He also noted the implementation of Kavach safety technology across 1,898 kilometers of tracks, further strengthening the state’s railway safety framework.

Odisha currently benefits from the operation of six Vande Bharat trains, with additional services planned for the near future, the minister added.

Centre had allocated ₹10,586 crore in the previous budget 2024-25.
