Bhubaneswar, July 28: The Commissionerate Police has busted a chain snatchers’ gang from Bhubaneswar and suceeded to nab the mastermind, hailing from Uttar Pradesh.
The Special Squad of the Commissionerate Police has also arrested two local members of the gang who were on the prowl in the Twin Cities.
The accused persons have been identified as Ram Kumar of Shamli district in Uttar Pradesh, Akash Samal of Cuttack Sadar and Sheetal Behera of Bidanasi.
According to the police, the first case was registered after a complaint was filed at the Kharvel Nagar police station in Bhubaneswar in April this year while the second was registered a few weeks ago.
DCP Prateek Singh said the Bawariya gang was rampant in the twin cities whereas a lot of complaints were lodged involving chain snatching. They belong to the Bawariya tribe of Uttar Pradesh. They travel by train and commit crimes in different cities. Wherever they go they first steal a bike and using that bike they indulge in series chain snatching and other loots. The accused has been identified as Ram Kumar a resident of Shamli district. We have recovered two chains and a stolen bike from him,” informed Bhubaneswar to reporters.
Singh also said that in the second case, two accused persons identified as Akash Samal of Cuttack Sadar area and Sital Behera of Bidanasi area were arrested by Saheed Nagar police while two gold chains were recovered from their possession.
