Cuttack, July 29: A tragic accident occurred on Sunday night in the Nischintakoili area of Cuttack district, where one person was killed and two others sustained severe injuries after a speeding car rammed into a group of Kanwariyas. The incident happened in Salepur as the group of 37 devotees was en route to the Siddheswar Mahadev shrine in Paikarapur.
The deceased has been identified as Chinmayee Behera of Jinhipur, while the injured are Dipti Ranjan Rout and Purna Chandra Behera. According to sources, the mishap occurred when the group had just collected water from Babujanga ghat near Tehsil chhak and was heading towards their destination.
The speeding car struck the group, resulting in Chinmayee's immediate death and leaving the other two critically injured. The injured were promptly transported to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for treatment.
Further details reveal that after hitting the Kanwariyas, the car driver lost control and collided with a pick-up van. The police have since detained the driver and initiated an investigation into the incident to determine the cause and circumstances surrounding the crash.
Authorities have urged caution and reminded drivers to be vigilant, especially in areas where pilgrims and devotees are present. The incident has sparked concerns over road safety and the need for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations.
